On 13 December 2007, out of the blue, I received this email from Pauline Malone. This opens up a whole new line of research since this part of the family was not known:
Hello Bill
My name's Pauline Malone and I discovered your fantastic website when I was trying to trace my grandfather (Jeremiah Healey). I thought I was on the wrong track at first but I knew my grandfather was from Cloyne and have discovered that I am actually Mary Dorgan and Jeremiah Healy's great great granddaughter! Mary Dorgan and Jeremiah Healy’s son Patrick (Pad) is listed as having four children: Mary Frances, Helen, ? and Patrick. They actually had another son - Jeremiah (my grandfather). My grandfather came to England (Liverpool). I don't know when he came to England but it must have been before 1926 as my uncle was born here). I don't know when my grandfather was born but he died in 1983 - he was in his seventies. Helen (known as auntie Nellie, Patrick (Paddy), and his wife Margaret and Pat Connolly came to his funeral. Incidentally, the ? is Pat Connolly's mother and I am sure she was called Peggy (Margaret). There had been a rift in the family (I don't know why) and Paddy and my grandfather did not speak. In fact, the photo albums did not appear until my grandmother produced them after my grandfather's death. I had met Nellie before when I was a child. She came to Liverpool to visit and she was with Mary Frances (known to the family as 'Baby'). My grandmother was also from Cloyne. I don't know if she married my grandfather here or in Ireland. She was born in 1906 and died in 1991 aged 85 (Sean Healy and Catherine Healy attended my grandmother's funeral). I know little about her except that her name was Helena (known as Lena) Dorgan! When I was a child she showed me a photo of her father who was a farmer (I can't remember his name). Her mother had died when she was a child and her father remarried. She had some sisters, one of whom was called Albina who emigrated to the States. Albina became ill and a family member went to fetch her back to Ireland but I don't know if she died before they could bring her back. My grandfather had six children (note the familiar naming pattern!): Our name Healy must have become anglicized as we always spelt it with an 'e' - Healey. My grandfather worked as a builder.
John Christopher Healey born 1 January 1926 and died in May 2004 aged 78 - never married
Jeremiah Joseph Healey (my dad) born 26 October 1928 and died September 1978
Margaret Healey - never married but emigrated to Australia in the 60s but came back when my grandmother became ill. Margaret died in 2001 (Sean Healy and Pat Connolly attended Margaret's funeral)
Evelyn Healey - married John Beck. Emigrated to Australia also and had 2 children Dianne and Stephen
Terence Healey - married Jean and had four children (one of the children is a son Stephen who will carry on the Healey name)
Mary Frances Healey - emigrated to Australia (married Hugh Six but later divorced) No children
I remember my dad mentioning that he once went to Ireland and stayed on a farm belonging to a member of the family - they had Irish Red Setters and he fell in love with them. Looking at the photos on your website of the Healy's, I find the likeness to my grandfather, father, and my uncle John amazing!
My dad married my mum (Irene Connolly) in 1955 and had me (born 10 July 1956) and my sister Patricia (born 31 Jan 1961). I married Gerard Malone (Scottish but of Irish descent) in 1989. My son (Patrick Gerard Jeremiah - what a mouthful!) was born 28 Feb 1990 and my daughter Katie (Katherine Pauline Louise) was born 30 March 1992. We moved from Liverpool in 2000 to a village (Euxton) about 50 miles from Liverpool. I work as a clerk and my husband is a retired police officer. Unfortunately, my dad didn't live to see his grandchildren (he died from cancer aged 49) but both his brother John and his sister Margaret played a large part in their lives.
I have never been to Ballybraher but hope to visit in 2009 when I will look up Sean and my other second cousins. I will also do a bit more digging about my grandmother to see if she was actually related in some way to the Dorgan clan.
If you get time Bill you could pls add my grandfather and family to the descendants - I just wish I had asked more questions and listened more closely when my family talked about their ancestors!
Best wishes
Pauline
