The name Motherway probably originated from the Huguenots who came over from persecution in France to the town of Ballymacoda.
Gerry was born in Dorgan’s Pub on Rock Street, Cuain Uamha (The Meadow of Caves), Cloyne, East County Cork, Ireland.
He played “soccer” (yes, soccer!) and hurling with the national hero, Christy Ring.
Gerry taught his three younger siblings. He got his teaching degree three months after his mother died.
