Flynn, Michael

Michael Flynn may have been the father of Ann Flynn. There is only one Richard and one Michael “Fling” on the 1855 Grifith’s Valuation of East Cork. There is no Flynn or Finn. Richard never appears as a given name in the Dorgan Family. But Michael is the second born of Patrick Dargan and Ann Flynn. This follows the Irish naming pattern. The second-born male child was named after his mother’s father.

The 1766 Religious Census of Cloyne lists a Willm “Fling” living outside the town of Cloyne.

In letters to General Loftus, officer commanding the Government forces in East Cork during the rising of the United Irishmen (1798-1804), the spy Richard Chapman pinpointed James Hannon as the author of papers and advertisements issued on behalf of the Society of United Irishmen and suggested that he, together with Morris Hartnett, a considerable farmer near Cloyne, and William Flynn, a carpenter of Ballytrasna, should be arrested and examined.

The 1766 Religious Census of Kilmahon lists a Simon “Fling”.

The 1830 Ballycotton Tithe Applotment lists a Denis “Flyng”.

The 1843 O’Connell Tribute, Parishes of Cloyne, Shanagarry, and Churchtown lists John Flynn and Maurice Flynn, Sen.

Griffith’s Valuation of June 1853 for the Civil Parish of Ballintemple, Barony of Imokilly lists a John “Fling” of Ballywilliam.
